Life in Cairo

Cairo is a densely populated, bustling city full of food stands, honking taxis, museums, clubs, all manner of cultural activities and too many people to count. Crowds are a fact of life in Cairo. Its a city that pulses with humanity day and night.

In 2008, AUC relocated to a new state of the art campus in a the suburb of New Cairo. The new campus spans 260 acres and is being designed to accommodate 5,500 full-time students and 1,500 faculty and staff, with room for further expansion.

New Cairo is designed to be a predominantly middle-to-high-income residential community with schools, cultural facilities, commercial enterprises, government agencies, hotels, open spaces, parks and the AUC New Campus at its center. The latest images of the new campus are available on the AUC Web site.

Housing and Meals

Partner students are responsible for making housing and meal arrangements with AUC independently. Once accepted to AUC, students should submit the AUC on-line housing application by the deadline.

The dormitories house both students and faculty. Security guards protect the facilities 24 hours a day. Separate entrances for male and female sections ensure privacy, while common areas provide comfortable settings for activities, dining and socializing. Since most Egyptian students live at home while studying at AUC, the dormitories house mostly international students and faculty, creating a diverse environment. AUC provides housing on campus as well as the Zamalek dormitory in downtown Cairo.

An Egyptian company provides a variety of food outlets on the new campus, ranging from a traditional cafeteria to fast food outlets with both Egyptian and international offerings.

Schedule

The AU Cairo program is available for Fall semester, Spring semester and Full Year. Students take courses Sunday through Thursday.
