Intensive Spanish language training in Granada!
Granada boasts a rich blend of Roman and Moorish
influences, seen through its diverse and unique architecture,
cuisine and music. Granada today never ceases
to surprise the visitor with the contrast between
old and new. Distinctions are seen in areas such as
the Albaicín or the Alhambra, with their hidden
corners filling the soul with peace and memories of
past eras, and the bustling lower part of the city,
full of life and color, of people coming and going,
and numerous bars and shops.
Students can choose from two, four week sessions
at the Centro
de Lenguas Modernas at the Universidad de Granada,
located in the central and typically "granadino"
district of the "Realejo", is housed in
the 16th century palace of Santa Cruz , which has
been specially restored for teaching purposes. Since
restoration was completed in 1992, the new Centro
de Lenguas Modernas offers its renowned Spanish Courses
for Foreigners, as well as a variety of Foreign Language
Courses. It is the combination of the two that make
the center such an original venture. Foreign students
can share their daily lives with those of Spanish
students, thus stimulating a mutual interest in their
different languages and cultures. This contact is
strengthened through a language exchange program,
which gives students the opportunity to practice their
Spanish outside the classroom, and by cultural visits
and activities.
The application deadline is March 15!
Students will have a Program Coordinator who will
provide orientation, as well as transportation between
Madrid and Granada at the start and end of the program.
During the Language Immersion, students will have
a main coordinator to assist them in Granada.
Meet the Spain Program Director
After years of study and teaching in the United States, Dr. MariCarmen Caballero returned to her native Spain to lead AU's abroad programs in Madrid in 1996. Dr. Caballero earned her doctorate at the City University of New York with her research in the "Theory and Praxis of the Classical discourse applied to the Renaissance narrative." Dr. Caballero taught for several years at SUNY before joining AU. Prior to joining academia, Dr. Caballero worked in journalism, as a radio announcer, news reporter and anchor for the Spanish media in New York, a city that she considers magical.
Dr. Caballero says that to work in international education all of these years has been a fabulous experience since she has been able to see, over and over, how the memories of what the students lived and shared
together does not only have a profound and lasting effect on them and are cherished for years to come.
